the Shadow knows...

OK....I now feel the need to set the record straight on my use of color in this piece. Before Sin City....Before the Spirit....I saw a preview engagement of Baz Luhrman's La Bohemme here in San Francisco. Back in 2002. The production design was all B/W with splashes of color. I immediately wanted to do something similar in an illustration. The Shadow was the first thing to come to mind because of the scarf. Now, don't get me wrong...I love being compared to stuff people like. That said, I would hate the idea that people might also think I was aping another style. When the Spirit came out...it really worried me. OK, I've said my piece. Enjoy.

Wicked! That's really awsome. I love the way the only colour you used was the red scarf.....

DEAD sexy.

My hero is a schizophrenic super-sleuth who kills gangsters as a hobby. He rubs elbows with crimefighting Mimes and killer Nuns. His greatest foe is a voodoo pimp.

Face it, you're going to read my comic. [link]
Fantastic image! It's so well-rendered, and so smart, with the only color being the bright red of the Shadow's scarf. Really brilliant.
